The Roof and Porch Repair Program (formerly known as the EHAP program) provides grants from $5,000 to $30,000 for low to moderate income owner occupants of one to four-unit residential buildings. The program is limited to the repair and/or replacement of roofs or porches. A property can receive service one-time only.
The 2018 roof and porch registration takes place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 14. On this day, residents can initiate the registration process online or by calling the city’s 311 service line.
Applicants will be selected via a lottery process on Tuesday, October 31, at 9:00 AM in Preston Bradley Hall on the third floor at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington Street.
Eligible owner-occupied properties must be located in the city of Chicago, in habitable condition, consist of one to four residential units, and not be at risk of foreclosure. Condominiums, commercial, and mixed-use units are not eligible for the program. Properties that received assistance in the past under the program (formerly known as EHAP) are ineligible to participate again.
Household earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) are eligible to participate in the program. If the property is jointly owned, the total gross income of all owners will be included in this figure and cannot exceed the 80% limit.
